The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) is participating with the The Federal Geographic Data Committee, Homeland Security Working Group (FGDC HSWG) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in an active review process of DHS’ Geospatial Data Model (GDM), which was developed to support information sharing and interoperability. DHS wants to make you aware that documentation for the DHS GDM Version 1.2 Technical Release is now available at www.fgdc.gov/dhsgdm. Additional documentation (User's Guide, Data Dictionary and Oracle Spatial 10g Implementation Profile) will be added to this Web page in early July.
GITA is requesting that any interested parties please review the GDM as indicated below, and respond with their comments to GITA. GITA’s Federal Liaison and Advisory Group (FLAG) will collect these responses and provide your feedback to the DHS in a cohesive compilation of your responses.
Comments will be accepted by DHS until August 17, 2007. We would like to collect your comments by July 20, 2007 to allow for compilation and review by the August due date. Please forward your comments to Angie Murgel, GITA, at amurgel@gita.org or at 14456 E Evans Ave, Aurora, CO 80014.
DHS is asking your review of the GDM documentation in the context of:
1) Ensuring that the geospatial data content of the model satisfies your data needs in preparation for, prevention of, protection against, response to, and recovery from threats and hazards to our Nation,
2) Identifying shortcomings in the Unified Modeling Language (UML) code, and
3) Identifying existing UML code that could remedy shortcomings.
Version 1.2 of the DHS GDM represents an attempt at UML harmonization between the FGDC Framework layers, as well as harmonization with other source UML code.
Finally, at the www.fgdc.gov/dhsgdm Web page, the DHS GDM v1.2 – Interactive HTML Data Model Documentation, or third selection, is the preferred choice for navigating the UML by reviewers that are not data modeling professionals.
